When to Get a New Car Battery | Bob Moore Collision Center

It's no fun starting your car up and getting no response. Whether you find yourself trapped at home or in a supermarket parking lot, a dead battery can easily ruin a day. The best way to ensure you don't get stranded is to know the warning signs you should look out for. When your battery needs to be replaced, you'll notice some of the common car battery problems below:

  • Engine may take longer than usual to start
  • Corrosion on your battery terminals
  • Battery warning light
  • Dim or flickering headlights
  • Clicking sounds when starting your car

Any of the signs above could indicate it's time for a new battery. If you notice one of the warning signs below, don't wait to bring your car in! Visit Bob Moore Auto Body shop to get your battery inspected today.

How Often Should I Change My Car Battery?

As with most things in life, it depends. Most experts recommend replacing your battery every three to five years, but this timeframe can vary significantly based on several factors. Extreme heat or cold can lower your battery life, as can frequent short trips that don't allow the battery enough time to recharge. Three to five years is typically a safe bet for most, though. Once you've reached that threshold, keep an eye out for the warning signs listed above to ensure you don't get caught off guard.

How to Replace Car Battery?

Replacing a car battery is so easy that even this writer, with two left thumbs, can fumble through it. The battery is easy to locate, and you'll just need to disconnect the connection points that sit on the top of the battery. All you'll need is a pair of gloves and a wrench. Once you loosen the bolts from the connection points, it's as easy as sliding the new battery into place and reconnecting it to the car. Of course, if that's out of your comfort zone, you can bring your vehicle to any Bob Moore dealership, and we'll be happy to do it for you.
